Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has praised Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew for his standout performance in the club’s 5-1 win over Leeds United in the English Premier League on Sunday.
Ayew, who scored two goals in the game, had his best outing of the 2022/23 season so far, and Hodgson was quick to single him out for praise.
“If I had to single somebody out that doesn’t get a lot of praise it would be Jordan Ayew,” said Hodgson in his post-match comments. “Not only his two goals, but his enormous work rate helped us enormously in the game and that set a bit of a marker.”
The 31-year-old forward was instrumental in Palace’s victory, displaying his skills and experience to torment Leeds’ defence throughout the game.
Ayew’s first goal came in the 38th minute, as he latched onto a cross from teammate Andros Townsend to slot home from close range. He then grabbed his second in the 72nd minute with a clinical finish after a clever run to beat the offside trap.
The two goals take Ayew’s tally in the English Premier League this season to three, with his other goal coming against Bournemouth in December 2022.
Ayew has been a consistent performer for Crystal Palace since joining the club from Swansea City in 2019. Last season, he was the club’s top scorer with 10 goals in all competitions, and he has continued to impress this season.
His performance against Leeds United has further endeared him to Palace fans, and he will be looking to build on his impressive display as the club aims to finish the season strongly.
Crystal Palace currently sits in 11th place on the Premier League table, with 42 points from 33 games. The Eagles will next face Newcastle United at Selhurst Park on Saturday, April 15.
